PORSCHE IS PLANNING AN ALL-ELECTRIC SUV!

July 21, 2022

Perhaps not the most amazing news since Cayenne’s pretty amazing success, Porsche has announced that it will build another SUV.

Porsche plans to build an all-electric SUV at its Leipzig production plant. The SUV is currently in development, and will be released sometime in the future. The new SUV will target the “higher margin segments” in order to tap into new sales opportunities. This suggests that this will be a big SUV. Porsche hopes that the new EV will further promote its dominance on the SUV chart. Last year Porsche sold 301,915 cars, with the Macan taking the top spot (88,000 units), and the Cayenne in second place (83,000 units). Forty percent of all Porsche sales last year were electrified.

There is money to be made in this business. “As an exclusive sports car manufacturer, we benefit from economies of scale from our partnership with the Volkswagen Group, and we are in the best position in the luxury car industry,” added Bloom. “This results in structural growth opportunities for us.”

There will also be an all-electric Macan, not to mention, along with a mid-engine electric 718.In fact, Porsche is aiming for 80 percent of cars delivered in 2030 to be battery electric. “Porsche is a leading player in the sport utility vehicle market and in the all-electric luxury car segment,” said Porsche CFO Lutz Meschke. More news as soon as we have them.

If SUVs allow room for Porsche to compete with GT4s, GT3s, and GT2s, that’s great. Right?
